| How to get to us? There is a ferry line Zadar-Brbinj up to 32 kilometers away from Dugi Otok - sailing schedule (the ride lasts an hour and a half). You can also get from Brbinj to Veli Rat by car or by bus about 12 kilometers northwestwards. All the places are connected to the road. |

Dugi Otok is situated in the middle part of the Adriatic sea, in the exterior range of the islands of the archipelago of Zadar. The island of Molat is situated northwards, and the Natural park Telaščica, which extension is the National park Kornati, to the south. Small, quiet and picturesque places where life is going like decades ago, is a characteristic of Dugi Otok. The nearest town is Zadar. Dugi Otok is the biggest island in the group of northern Dalmatian islands and one of the bigger islands at the Adriatic. It is 52 km long, and 4, 5 km large. The south-western part of the island is abrupt with attractive cliffs, and the other part of the littoral at the island is descending gently to the sea where numerous bays and coves are. There are olive-groves, vineyards and vegetable patches on the cultivable surfaces of Dugi Otok, while the other part of the island is overgrown with forests and Mediterranean macchia.

The climate of Dugi Otok is Mediterranean type, with long and warm summers and mild winters, with the average temperature of 6,4°C in January and 24,1°C in august. The number of sunny hours is around 2700 per year, and the average number of rainy days come to only 90 days per year. There are 1800 inhabitants on the island, in 11 villages situated on the north-eastern part of the island, toward Zadar. All the villages are connected with the asphalted road, from which stretch the marvelous views on the both sides of the island. Among the traditional occupations like fishing and agriculture, there are more and more people engaged in tourism in the recent time. There is a market in every village, a post-office in most of them, a surgery with the permanent doctor in Božava, Sali and Žman. The island has an adequate traffic connection by ferries and hydrofoil boats with the land.
On the southern part of the island there is the Natural Park of Telaščica, situated in the very narrow bay, with the unusual salty lake Mir and high perpendicular cliffs descending towards the sea. Telaščica is an extension of The National Park of Kornati, that consists 125 islands, islets and reefs and is a pearl of the Adriatic Sea. You can visit them by pleasure boat from the area of Sali.
